What You Need To Know About Wireless Computer Speakers

by Andy Zain

Wireless computer speakers work basically the same way as normal computer speakers. However, instead of using wires to connect to your computer, you connect a transmitter to your computer and the transmitter sends a signal to the speakers. Once the signal is received by the speakers, they are able to produce music or other sounds.

The transmitter uses an FM radio signal to send the sound to the wireless speakers. The use of FM radio signals allows the speakers to be placed in a different room than the computer because the radio waves can travel through walls, floors and ceilings. The distance you can place your speakers from the computer depends on the strength of the signal. Depending on which wireless computer speakers you are using, you may be able to place the speakers anywhere from 100 to 300 feet from the computer.

Obviously, if you need the speakers to be further away from your computer, you are probably going to have to spend more money to get a model with a stronger transmitter. If you are using your speakers in the same room as your computer, you can settle for a more inexpensive model with a weaker transmitter.

Some models of wireless stereo speakers can be used as computer speakers, but it's hard to know which ones will work and which ones won't without trying them out. If you have a friend who has some wireless speakers they will let you borrow for testing purposes, you may be able to find out if they will work with your computer or not. Otherwise, it is probably best to stick with models that are made specifically for computers.

Wireless computer speakers usually operate at about 900 MHz. This may cause problems such as feedback if you have other electronic items in your home that operate on the same frequency. You should either make sure you are buying speakers that use a different frequency than your cordless phone or that allow you to adjust the frequency. Baby monitors can also cause conflicts with wireless speakers.

Most companies that make wireless speakers manufacture them so that they can use either batteries or an AC adaptor. If you are going to be using your speakers in a location where you will not be able to plug them in, it is important to make sure that the model of speakers you are buying can be operated from batteries.

By using wireless computer speakers, you can eliminate some of the mess of cords that surround your computer and make your workspace neater. You can use the wireless speakers to play music in another room or even outdoors. Perhaps you could throw a party and use your wireless speakers to play dance music for your friends.
